There's no sensor on the alternator, are you talking about the little red exciter wire and it's harness?

If its not plugged in, your alternator doesn't have the 12V it needs to produce power to handle the high amperage load that your car's starter, ignition system, and accessories put on it. This drains your battery and you won't be able to start your car because of it.

If its the small connector that plugs into the alternator near the valve cover the part number for it is acdelco pt494.

I dont have a camera. Its not the wire plugs (red) that is screwed on there. Its a click on sensor that is on the bottom. Right next to the valve cover. It cant be scene without taking the alternator off.

It might be the voltage sensor connector. When it broke my car said check guages and all the guages are ok and voltage was getting low. then the car died on me. also the brake light came on and i didnt have the hand brake up or anything. (strange)

Is it the small red 16gauge wire that plugs into the alternator?

There is no voltage sensor connector... that red wire that plugs into the back of your alternator by a plastic connector is the EXCITER WIRE, not a voltage sensor wire.

Your alternator won't be able to generator power if its damaged or unplugged.

You have a volt meter on your cluster that is tied to the alternator, and if your alternator isn't generating any power, your car drains the battery and the needle on your volt meter will drop, and then your check guages light will come on.

Again, that small red wire on the back of your alternator is NOT a sensor, it's a 12V exciter wire.

spent a full day chasing spark on a friends car, this was one of the main problems.

I think the Voltage Regulator is on the back of the alternator, but if I recall correctly its held in by screws or bolts. There's also the big battery-to-alternator wire but that gets held to a stud/post by a nut, then is covered by a rubber boot.

Only connector that "clicks" on is the exciter wire.

What don't you understand?

There are two wire connections to the alternator. One comes from the battery, one is the red alternator exciter wire with the single wire connection.

THAT'S IT.

Guppy stated what plug you need. The new plug will come as a pigtail with all four wires, only one wire is used for this application. You'll need to get into the harness of the car near the alternator and find the wire that you broke off the original plug and wire it to the correct contact of the new plug.

The plug is available at Autozone as part 237 and Pep Boys as part PT200.

I can do better then that price from efi if your on the cheap. Do you need the plug all the way up to the pcm lead or you do you need the plug with a bit of wire to cut and solder together?
