Or if you want to keep the original integrity of the cover you can just bend the 90* lip straight with a pair of pliers or vice grips.
I see a 4.5 inch angle grinder in my valve covers' future

What guideplates do you guys use or recommend? I am about to pull the trigger on these since they are not hardened and I am not using hardened pushrods.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G6450/

Or do I NEED to get hardened pushrods AND hardened guideplates? I REALLY dont want to.

If you are using NSA rockers, I use the Trickflow 30400623-8 plates and the TF 7.2" .080" chromoly pushrod.

Just bought hardened pushrods and guideplates. MAN this escalated QUICKLY! Brick killed a guy!

$125 for used Crane Gold NSA 7/16 1.6 rockers
$80 for used hardened pushrods and guideplates
$85 for used 918s
$65 for used ARP 7/16 studs
$15 for used airfoil
$55 for new polylocks
---------------------------
$425 grand total for valvetrain update

And I still need a new clutch master and slave

My justification: wife got engagement party dress, bridal shower dress, bachelorette party dress, rehearsal dinner dress, and wedding dress. I get used car parts and a free tux rental

Did you get the retainers with the springs? I would have them checked for installed height and open pressure.

That's not bad at all man! You got some good deals.

IMO I'd just stick with a GM clutch master cylinder if they still have them available? I'd only do an expensive one if there was any sort of auto-x or road race stuff involved. For every day driving and drag racing anything should do just fine as long as it doesn't leak. From what you describe it really sounds like you have air in the lines especially if it's not leaking. What I would not skimp out on is the valvetrain. Looks like you've made some good choices. Buying used valve springs though you should have them pressure checked before installing them.

I'm 87% sure I'm just going to get the gm unit unless something else I have on eBay sells. The "craziest" clutch I would get would be a competition clutch stage 3 which would be fine on the gm unit. I'm not going to have time to check the springs unfortunately, but this thing will never see alot of miles, this 700 mile trip to bg once a year is all they will see.

Having bought ProForm, then CAT rockers for my OLD ZZ4 cam only setup then later bought Comp Pro Magnums 7/16" ARP studs and comp guideplates that didn't fit well, then GMPP guideplates that wore out, then Isky adjustables at $50. I wish I had just bought shaft mounts once. I bet if you totaled it all up I have spent that much.

I know I'm leaving 5 hp on the table not getting 1.7s, but I'm trying to not do what 96caprice did and buy a bunch of different sets of rockers. After this winter I don't plan on still being just bolton, I'm hoping for le1s and a 224-226/230-232ish cam and want to reuse all of these parts. The crane 1.6s will be reliable and fit that cam nicer than 1.7s, but if I was staying Bolton I would have gone with the 1.7 scorpions jagxjs uses.

I do have the high bid on some 1.6 Crower 7/16 NSA rockers on eBay right now, so I may end up with more than 1 set anyways.

WELL CRAIGSLIST SCREWED ME

The Crane NSA 7/16 rockers the guy sold me turns out they are 3/8, so now I have purchased 7/16 ARP studs and 7/16 locks and they dont fit. I need to either buy some 7/16 rockers or buy 3/18 ARP studs and 3/8 crane locks. And I only have 3 days.

WHAT DO I DO?!?!?!?!?

I found a guy on craigslist who says he has a set of 7/16 NSA full rollers that Im going to hopefully pick up tomorrow, going to pay a premium but its faster than summit or jegs or buying them off the forum. This time im bringing a 7/16 stud!!!!

Im flying now on the springs, only took 10 minutes to do 2 rockers, that little dab of greese helps alot

I think the "buy used parts, your taking a gamble" thing happened to me AGAIN. The springs I bought dont look like 918s which I thought was what I was sold, and I didnt even pick up on it till today. Can anyone identify these? They look like Howards 98215s.

I don't think you can guess at the part number but those are clearly not a beehive of any sort, they are a single with damper.
