4.00 bore 3.00 crank 6.00 Olds rods.. 58# Flywheel, Muncie M22 L2224 Speed pro pistons ... And make sure u have a REV Kit on it ... or u will loose a lifter... The tach was a cable driven SUN unit off a dual point Accel Dist....Either a Victor + 2" spacer.... Or Tunnel ram and 2 660 center squirters .

years ago with my old setup I lined up in the staging lanes against a mid 70s big block Vette. He didn't talk to me, looked down his nose at my ugly car. I completely waxxed him, might have even been 2 full seconds as I think he ran in the 14s. He just left after that one pass.

My Dad remembers the "glory days" and still thinks a 283 is the best smallblock ever. He hasn't driven my car as he lives 5hours away but he has been in it and is surprises him not only the power but the fact I get better mileage with it than the half ton 5.3L trucks he and I both daily drive.

The old stuff was great in it's day and the memorable stuff was as said often leaded fuel and solid flat tappet. What would OEM stuff do these days if someone was say selling an E85 only(high octane) car with a solid roller.
Even the LS7 is set up for 91 octane since that is as high as many areas get.

my buddy built a 10,000 rpm sbc for his nova, we launched it down at the beach once and he over shifted it getting it stuck in 2nd gear and w/ 4.11's and purple hornies right off the headers, driving it back down the highway to his house was hilarious and deafening! people wer hurting their necks turning them so fast

Makes me wonder how long a SBC would last in Formula 1
