Mine only has 110k on the clock but runs like new. Everything around the engine seems to be in need though.

Auto or manual? If its auto, has he ever had to rebuild/replace it?

163k miles, 2nd opti, radiator, water pump, coil, needs full gaskets and seals replacement on the engine, could use a fresh clutch and the trans needs a rebuild.

Nah, you guys have it all wrong...

LT1's are just boat anchors... Isn't that they all say??

Sure they have some quirks, but IMO they're pretty bulletproof.

I just bought a 94 Z28, with 94 thousand miles on it with it's 2nd opti spark and still runs good, with no oil leaks..This car has a cold airintake, and a shiftkit, and i'm installing a 3200 FTI lock-up converter over the winter..

The wifes 94 ImpSS has 172k on it. I did H/C at 135k. 1-1/2 yrs ago, she blew a head gasket at the track (N2O). So I figured I might as well rebuild it to a 383. At 135k and when I pulled it apart at 172k, ZERO ridge, bearings were like new, etc. It had been on Mobil 1 since new.

It's been though 1 alternator, 1 Opti, 2 waterpumps, then one EWP motor, 1 p/s pump, on 3rd transmission (this one is a Performabuilt, so we're good), a rear diff, 5 set of tires, one steering shaft and all steering components/shocks. All the black paint is original except on hood (aftermarket).

240k lt1 was an auto and had the transmission rebuilt once. Guess I'll just drive the hell out if my stroker and hope she lasts.

214,xxx miles, bought it with 198,xxx. leaks a tiny bit of oil. swapped to t56 after 3 or 4 4l60e rebuilds. no real problems with the motor. replaced the rear main seal when i bought it and the ac compressor broke so the ac got deleted. plenty of non-motor problems though, lol.

Hey:

Other than the Opti and the water pumps the base engines seem to last a very long time, it is the other stuff with the car, like switches and window motors that give these cars and GM a bad rep. To bad too as they really are a good bang for the buck.

Mine just rolled 200K on the way back home to Milwaukee, WI from Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta in GA. That trip was over 1900 miles in 7 days and I hit the Tail of the Dragon both going down and coming home. Here's a pic from last Sunday on the Dragon....
