I have a buddy who DDs a bone stock 95 camaro with 240k on the ticker. I'm truly amazed considering it has had the **** ran out of it and still does 150. Anyone know of a higher mileage LT1?

My 93 has 74,000. With that car I have found sitting is some times worse for a car then driving it. Time really takes it toll more than any thing also, you have wear and tear from driving but I found my 93 was a lot more reliable when it was driven semi daily.

74k is a baby mileage LT1. As long as you change to synthetic ever 3k-4k miles, replace radiator every 100k miles youll be fine. And LT1 dont like to sit in the garage. they love to be driven long distances 153k on mine

I can't beat 240k.. but I'll be over 200k sometime next year for sure. It's sitting about 194k and some change right now. Still runs great too! No engine work has been done to yet it to my knowledge.

Hey:

I have 2 hi mile Z28s My red stone stock 93 that still runs hi 12s, with a tick under 300,000 (should see it next week sometime on the way to work).I've been thru 3 fuel pumps, 3 optis, lots of tires, 7 window motors, 1 seat motor, 2door switches, a headlight switch, 1 starter, 1 alternator, 2 a/c compressors, 2 batteries, 3 low beam headlights, 2 water pumps, (now electric) and 1 10 bolt rear end, not bad really as hot as it gets down here. The injectors are stock as is the rest of the car, the engine runs fine still.
This car is run hard and used as my daily to work car, when not on my motorcycle.

And another with over 220,000 but has had the motor swapped out for an
LT4 175,000 miles ago, and that was modded 75,000 miles ago. It is the car in my sig.

Also there is a whole bunch of IMPs and Caprices with 2-3 times this miles on lt1s from police departments. I know of 1 police Camaro that had over 500,000 when put on auction and that was in 01, I think the guy still drives it or his son does. So plenty out there, just not all on this forum..

I have one in the garage with 227K miles and one in a wagon in the yard with 299K miles. A friend's wife daily drives one that was cammed at 160K and has to be solidly over 210K miles now since it hit 200K a few years ago and I haven't asked since.

As someone said, consider the Caprice was a popular police car taxi and there are a LOT of very high mile LT1s out there. The LT1 Caprice got used a LOT longer than most police cars too because after they went away in 96 there was nothing quick to replace them with except a Camaro or Mustang. The LT1 Caprice cop car had speed limiters up to 147mph based on tire options the turd of a Crown Vic couldn't even approach that in 2010, 0-60 of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 120mph with the 3.55gear and the 3.27 geared car took 8.88 seconds 0-60 and did 129mph.

What that meant is a lot of cops kept their LT1 Caprices a LOT longer than they would have if they could have found a quick replacement and a number of companies popped up to specifically rebuild them so police could keep using them longer.

Very impressive guys. Some of the mileage mentioned is quite astounding. Makes me wonder how long my 383 will last. I've got around 25k on mine at the moment.

A 383 is a whole nother beast. The average machineshop can't touch GM's machining capability. The pistons are likely a different material as are the rings and bearings.
Forged aftermarket pistons are also often a softer material and the rings will wear out the lands.

this is very encouraging, i just got my uncles 94 TA M6 and it feels like it has all 275 horse from the showroom, the paint and exterior not so much. I figure since it was adult owned, never modded and the 6sp keeping the revs low when he commuted on the highway kept it in good shape.

If 6th is overused I would worry about lugging hurting the engine more than a few rpm would have.

Would you think starting out in 3rd all the time is good? Well using 6th at reasonable speeds with stock gearing is about the same thing, not a good thing, letting the engine turn a few more rpm is not a bad thing.

My friend just traded his 96 mustang gt vert for a 94 z28 hardtop with 184k on the clock, after a tune up the car runs great and does not feel like it has lost any power due to age or mileage. My Z28 just turned 125k and runs like a absolute beast. My last mustang gt was completly falling apart at 125k.

I have owned my Z for almost 2 years now and I have to say this may be the most reliable, comfy, trouble free muscle car I have ever owned. I have had 4 mustangs and I will say that the overall build quality of the camaro is much better.....and its faster

Taxis around here used to take Caprices up to 600,000 miles. They were used police cars at first too. The drivers loved them because there was very little down time. You could swap out the trans in an hour if you needed. One guy I talked to used to be a mechanic for a taxi company back then. He explained a way to check if an opti is working or not and explained the process to me, but I couldn't remember it. Damn. He said he changed thousands of them, but most used to run for 90,000 miles before they needed a change.

Purchased the car with ~195k (stock), yank stall and 4.10 at ~200k, threw ported heads and hotcam on it at ~215k

Sitting around 250k on the short block and a trans with 100k on it. The short blocks last a long time. *knock on wood*

Mine had 220+ and still ran mint just leaked oil like a sieve. Best run i managed to get was a 13.9 @ 102 with an awful 60 foot. Only had 4.10s and lt's figured if i could get it to launch a 1.8/9 60 foot it had a low 13 in it. If i was going to keep driving it the way it was it would have lasted 300+ i only swapped it out to put a built motor in.
