FWIW I have heard multiple times over the years that M1, while great for LS engines, is actually not that good for our trusty iron block LT's.
My local speed shop, with tons of GM experience, recommended Valvoline Durablend "Part Syn" for LT1s, so that is what I ran in my car when it was a daily driver. They don't sell any oils so it's not one of those "We'll recommend what we're a dealer for" things. Most shops will tell you to run what they have a bunch of barrels of in the back room...
Interested in what my machine shop will say, they are the ones who tore it all down to check everything out and clean it up.

No one thing can be blamed. Especially when it comes to a dying breed of engine. Every car forum is suffering a lack of activity because there are many more ways to socially connect or people are moving on. Where there are people there is going to be controversy regardless of the topic. It has always been that way and at a much higher magnitude when forums were far more active.
