Default Cam & gear vs Converter & gear, which one

Hey guys buddy of mine has a 1997 z28 a4, with some bolt on such as longtubes, ewp, intake, 58mm or something TB, full O/R exhaust. now here is my question for you guys in his price range he could do 1 of the following
1. lt4 hot cam, and some 4.10's
OR
2. do a 2400-2800 stall, and 4.10's

He does not want a bigger stall even tho i told him with bolt on's he could do a 3600, but he wants to keep it under 3k range. Which would be a bigger performance gain do you guys think.

My vote would and is a 3600 stall with some gear and tire but he will not go above 2800 stall thanks guys!!

3000 stall, I would recommend and 3.73 gears not 4.10, he would get bored of the lt4 cam and eventually will want bigger and will need 1.6 rr and others, etc

yeah, he would be getting a kit that comes iwth the rockers and springs, i would say converter as well, also why 4.10 over 3.73?

Depends on what tire is going to be run as well. Running a 26" tire on a 4.10 gear in an auto is pretty steep. If he's going to just be dicking around on the street then it's fine, but if the car is going to see track time it's a far better choice to go 3.73 on a 26" tire for most combinations.

With a auto I would say stall and gears but plan the parts ahead for a cam later. The hotcam really woke up my car but I already had gears and am a M6. With the LT4 springs I was getting some valve float at 6k or so, I wouldn't recommend them for the hotcam. IMO GM messed up on that one.

A 3800 stall converter with 3.73 to 4.10 gears will give more gains than cam and gear.
A LT4 stick is not the best option and most people end buying a bigger one. I think is better to buy proper gear and stall then save for a good cam, springs and maybe rockers, and a good tune of course

3600 stall and 3.73 hands down is one of the best recipes. Your going to want to set aside some cash for some new tires as they arent going to last long.
