Default BBK 52MM Throttle Body = Garbage

Okay, I've about had it. This is the crappy unit the previous owner has on.

Back in November the throttle got stuck twice. Yes, it actually got stuck, away from the damn throttle stop, so my car was stuck revving at about 1500 RPM. It did this twice in one month. I was a little irritated, but it wasn't too bad. At first I was scared shitless at what it was, but after I popped the hood and immediately saw that it was the throttle, I just knew that the BBK was a piece of crap. Not too big of a deal though, right?

Tonight, I'm sitting at a light. A black LS1 SS threw me a rev going the opposite way, and I threw him one back.. a nice 3500-4000 RPM rev . So the RPM starts to drop a little, but stays level at about 3000-3200. WTF!!!! I got out and popped the hood (car was in neutral), and sure enough, the throttle is stuck way away from the stop. Holy ****, I've never been more aggravated. I'll be writing BBK and Edelbrock pretty soon just to tell them how much their product sucks ***. I mean, what if I was going down the track and the throttle sticks at 6500 RPM? Bye bye LT1, that's what.

Over the summer when I do the LT4 heads/intake project, I was planning on replacing it with a Holley 58mm... now I might have to replace it with the Holley 52mm sooner than I thought...

So, any of you that are considering getting the cheap BBK/Edelbrock 52mm, DON'T. Shell out the extra money for the Holley. It's worth it.

Yea, that would suck ***! Every since I've been reading up on cars now I never hear anything good about Edelbrock/BBK when it comes to our cars...Hurry and get that **** fixed, because that could suck some serious ***.

Everything Edelbrock these days is absolutely garbage. BBK makes some good exhaust components (especially for Mustangs), but that's about it. Steer away from anything Edelbrock for our cars... especially the shorties, TB, and n20 kit.

I have a 58mm holly tb. And it to sticks once in a while . To get it unstuck all i have to do is floor the gas and then drop the gas pedal. It does get old real quick.

I actually tried to do that with the BBK, and it didn't work. Honestly I wanted to pull off the TB right there and throw it into a brick wall, full force.

I've had the BBK 52mm TB on my '94 since '96 with absolutely NO problems (related to the TB that is, I generate other problems myself )

I picked up a little over one tenth at the track the very next time out if I remember correctly. This was on a bolt-on only car at the time, before I started getting into the motor.

However, I do recall some peeps having problems with the first few batches. I guess mine is one of the later ones, and yours is an early one (?)

I had a BBK and a Holley both 58mm. The bbk was decent and the holley was a pos even after i had it ported.

I recently purchased a new AS&M 58mm TB it is a work of art!

Hands down better than all the rest..

I'll definitely consider the AS&M unit too, then

I've been reading up on lt1's, since i'm trying to sell my ls1 for one, and it seems that AS&M would be the best bet since they make a matching ported LT4 intake. They even make a 1200 cfm one

That's awesome, but why sell your LS1 for an LT1? Price of parts? Or just the good ole LT1 charm?

I've made 7 or 8 passes on mine at the track since the rebuild with a 58 mm BBK and I haven't had any problems yet. I have to agree that the AS&M piece is beautiful though.

actually its pricing and i see ls1's all the time, was deciding between a modular mustang or an lt1 and i have always wanted a 97 WS6. Kinda wanted something you don't always see fast as you see ls1's all the time at the track. Thinking about doing a 396 build up then maybe later going into a TT kit.

I had a BBK58mm, the only reason I put it on my car was because I got it for free. But anyways, When I put my new motor in, when I would give the car full throttle the IAC would go crazy and show to be stuck open . I had to clean the IAC and TB and then let the car go back into open loop and then drive it again before it would work properly. It would be fine at part throttle. But as soon as I gave the car full throttle it would do the same thing . I finally got rid of that PIECE and got an AS&M 58mm, which I have wanted for a loooong time. I have installed ALOT of those and never had any problems. They look INCREDIBLE too

Buy an AS&M. It's the only way to go as far as I am concerned.
