Default Lt1 alt relocation

Ok, I did the alternator relocation to the factory bracket and the damn top pulley broke off (the whole bracket broke )

I contacted speed inc because they make that awesome bracket that keeps the power steering. however they do not make them anymore,
does anyone know where or who makes a similar bracket to the one that speed inc makes. Im spinning over 8500RPM's and I think it was just too much tension for that top part of the bracket that broke off.

Thanks in advance for any help

These are the guys that made them for Speed Inc. I'm pretty sure they still make 'em.

Not to hijack, but I'd be interested in finding one that relocates the alt to where the air pump sits, and allows for retaining AC and PS.

Don't know if it's out there, but if it is, I'd be down.

They sell one that puts the alt on the drivers side allowing you to keep ps and ac. It goes for $500. Look around the site, its there.

Idk why those brackets are soooo expensive. They'd be rediculously easy to make.

I think it comes from the fact that they are CNC billet aluminum. But you are right, they are a bit pricey.

I know CNC machines are rediculously expensive, so that has to be "the reason." But powdercoated cut steel would do the same job and look just as nice and be a less than $20 in cost of raw material to make. I wonder why nobody makes those as an option for $85-100, they'd fly off the shelf. Hell, I'd spent $200 on a relocation kit that retains all the accessories in a heartbeat, $500 though, no thanks!

I'm the same way. But alum is definitely lighter. I'm still debating on those or making my own when I do my motor.

You have a pic of that? I'm just curious how it broke in the first place, maybe the pulley you put in was loose? I've also done the alt. relocate with the stock bracket, and I'd like to avoid an issue like that.

on my lt1. i have a home made brakets for my power steering pump and alternator. the alternator is on the passanger lower side and than on the driver side i have a sbc type 2 pump. but it keeps all of the stuff on the lower half of the engine.

i think all together i have maybe $400 into everything but thats with a new pump and all new lines.
but this will spin to 8500 all day. so i would look into this type of conversion.

If you've got some photos of it that would be awesome. I'm looking at doing a hydroboost and that would be nice to get it all on that side

Looks good, but I'd be keeping AC. There's no reason that this should be a 500 dollar part. If I could find one to use,(er... copy) I could have a local fab shop make them cheap. Just need the designs.

made one at home under 30 bucks not the greatest pics. bolts and piping used as spacer alot of maching up first with washers or whatevers laying around. and the old skool alternator slide adjustment bought for 12 dollars cut and welded. so if you can see that slide piece attaches to block then the alternator attaches to block and slide piece. will be making a bracket hopefully soon for a s10 pwr steering pump. has resivour built into it. enough of my rambling here are the pics. hope it helps

That is EXACTLY what I am looking to do. I have my alternator on the lower passenger side but would like to go back to power steering. Would you be able to provide the part numbers for the conversion? (Ie: PS Pump, pulley, etc.) Looks great, even though I know its not your car

and actually im changing the ps conversion set again this winter. instead of running of its own v belt in front of the balancer. im making it so it runs off of the stock surverten belt.

so if anyone wants a bracket for the ps pump or alternator. i could have one punch out and it will fit with any lt1 engine because of the curverten belt. if it was ran off of the v belt it would verry from lt1 to lt1 due to aftermarket hub and balncers.
