To answer your question 94formula I have though about going IRS but heard some guys lose a few extra RWHP going that route over a 12 or 10 bolt?! YOu never know though with the misinformation.

As far as the motor ill be running it through a 6-speed and start out small with a goal of 500+rwhp then gradually work my way up. Guess Ill have to give AI or AFR a call. Which preferences have you had better luck with heads; AI or AFR?

As for the suspension im looking into a UMI set-up, moser rear end with a T56 what I have now.

How strong are the stock T56’s?

UMI won't get you very far for a Pro Touring setup. Yes they offer some pieces here and there, but they are more focused on drag racing. You NEED to get on frrax and start looking around. I should have done that from the start and I would have been farther ahead, but instead I decided to buy/replace/buy/replace/buy/replace. I'm done with doing that, just buy the right parts the first time or you will hate the way it performs after a short time and end up replacing the shoddy parts with better ones.

UMI does have a road race version of their crossmember that was designed with input from the guys at frrax. UE has a decoupled torque arm that works pretty well too

Youll lose some hp at the wheels (not much) going to irs, but with everything setup properly you should be faster around a track. theres a couple builds on here, believe they used c4 vette parts (dana). as others have said, check out frrax also. most stuff on here's for drag racing

I wouldn't worry about the IRS setup at this point. The car can still handle well with the proper rear suspension setup, a UE Decoupled Torque Arm along with a Fays2 Watts link setup (along with the proper shocks, springs, etc) can completely change the way the car handles with the solid axle, and you wont have to do a TON of custom fab work to get it working (like you would with the IRS).

Also, like v7guy said, setup the car and suspension for the intended use before worrying about tons of hp, the right setup can be much faster on the track over very high hp. 500whp is a lot of NA hp for a track car.

Looks like I'm banned on frrax.com? I get a "Sorry, you are not permitted to use this board" message. Am I the only one who gets that? It's been a while since I checked that site, but I don't think I even registered there.

You need to be a member to view the forum.

Also, from information read on frrax, the UMI crossmember (road race or not) has been known to crack under heavy RR use. You can add support to it but by the time it is sturdy enough you will probably have a crossmember that weighs about as much as the stocker. Keep the stock crossmember and spend money elsewhere.

Is there a thread on frrax about it cracking? I don't read over there to much the last few years, but it was the way to go according to the guys for at least the first couple years they produced it. I'll have to dig around.

These cars aren't old muscle cars, and it's not rocket science how to make them handle. Shocks/springs/swaybars is about all you need, along with decent brakes. I just got back from sebring, and even though everyone talks about how rough the track is I didn't even notice it at all. No problems with the solid axle, and my car soaked up the bumps to the point where I didn't even notice they were there.

It does take quality parts to make them handle right and for an extended period of time though. UMI offers quality parts, but that doesn't mean they are your one stop shop for a road race car. I have some of their parts, but I was just saying there are more places to look for handling parts than just them.

Check out blainefab or unbalancedengineering or Strano or......

I was simply saying to buy quality parts the first time rather than replacing decent OEM parts with less quality aftermarket parts.

"Sorry guys, apparently the hosting company suspended the account due to a large volume of spam mail coming from the board. I'm guessing (since they never responded to any of the 3 tickets I put in starting at 12:55 pm EST today) that it was due to all of the spam registrations and the validation emails that are sent out...but I never got an answer on that....

So, I fixed that problem by suspending registrations, then I deleted the 19 pages of pending new members (all with strange names and foreign email addresses). I went back through to block the search engines from crawling the site and am making a few other changes. So, if anybody wants to register, or has a friend who wants to register, send me an email and I'll build the account manually."
