Default What do do with my AFR heads

I have one of the very first set of 190's made for LT1 back in the day. CNC competition porting package, 2.05 and 1.625 valves.

I think I am going to take the top end apart next winter. Should I plan to sell these heads and upgrade to bigger ones? Or just send these heads to AI or some place for porting and match a good solid roller to them? How well can they be made to flow? Or is it not worth all the hassle?

Thanks for any opinoins

Contact ai, they should be able to square you away.

AI wont port AFRs. They will tell him to throw them out and buy their stockers.

Have them done by GTP, or LE if you're on a budget.

I guess my real question is it worth spending money on these or just start with larger castings like 227's or something?

My goal is super light dedicated drag car, 10s n/a maybe faster.
I'm deciding when this current n20 experiment grenades, do I start collecting LS parts or LT parts for my NA build. I'm leaning towards LT just becuase, but the darkside is so tempting. So I am just weighing out my options currently researching so I can decide to swap or not.

Edit: my combo is 3000lbs me in it, TH400, 5500 rpm stall, 28" tire, spool.
Looking for a nice "reliable" NA low 10 seconds.
Don't want to start spinning past 7000 if I stay LT

By your goals I wouldn't spend anymore money those 190s.Sell them out right to offset cost of new castings. As far as your goals are concerned you can reach them easily with the LT.You just have to spec a combo that works well together.Search joelster on here his combo is running your goals with afr227s

Yes! I am a Joelster wannabe for sure

Ok thanks for the advice. I will have some fun with this combo a bit more and decide what to do. Since I don't want to spin over 7000 I'm not sure I'll have enough RPM for big heads unless I bore and stroke and and ... $$$

Your low weight will help a lot, but your self imposed 7k RPM limit may be an issue.

Smallblocks need RPMs, and to run low 10s NA on a 7k limit will be a challenge unless you go to 396+ cubes.

It's PCM imposed and if I'm upgrading that, I might as well go LS lol

Too much! I have a "fresh" forged splayed 4 bolt 350 with windage tray. Sure it was built in the 1990's but it has hardly any miles on it. I will run it with the AFR's until it breaks, just thinking ahead. I hate doing things 2-3 times so this time I want a plan

I'd be more than happy to take those heads off your hands if you don't need them

LOL

Well I watched a show on TV and how easy it was to change an LS intake manifold ... I don't know what to do. I guess I need some track time first with the new auto combo and should just focus on getting it running
