Well, finally got a chance to play with the car some more. Replaced the crank pos sensor. When I pulled the old one out, it fell apart. Hopefully that'll be my issue. Got the car nice and warm and drove it around for a bit Seemed to be driving better and didn't have any issues. I'll take it out again later and test it some more.

I had unplugged it briefly when it was acting up... I believe it puts the car back in open loop. Is that correct? It didn't change anything and I plugged it back up.

A quick update. I have driven the car the last couple of days with almost no issues. The original problems that I was having when it warmed up are gone. Now I am randomly having issues of loss of power/misfire. It has only happened twice and only lasts for a few seconds. So far it's only done it while I was driving the car. I'll keep driving and see if I can figure out a pattern or anything. Is there something that I could be looking at?

No check engine light on. I'll keep driving it and see if anything shows.

Well, car did it again today. Ran to the store after work and it lost all power and was knocking and backfired a couple times. Got into a parking space and it completely died. After is sat for about 20 minutes it started right up and got me home with no issues. I was very light on the gas on the way home but it still felt sluggish.... Never tripped the check engine light

Sounds like opti. Mine did that. Mine did it while driving and usually at slower speeds. It would start to breakup to where I had almost no power and then it would clear up. Changed the opti with a Delco unit from amazon and the problem was gone. Never threw a code. had to data log it and had hi res fail show up during log for few seconds as the car acted up and then it cleared up and code went away. Had fuel pressure gauge on it as well and FP was fine. Never had a check engine light.

That's definitely not what I want to hear but I figured that's probably what it is... I'm just going to drive it to and from work for now until I can get it replaced... Thanks for the help

Well, before I start throwing a bunch of money at the car I ordered an obd II bluetooth scanner. I'll see what it reads in real time and post what I find. I should have it in a few days.

Ok, got my scanner in. It's only showing 2 stored codes for the MAF and High Res pulse. I'll clear those out and keep an eye on it. I got the Torque app for my android phone. Is there anything that I could be looking for using the app to see what might be happening even if there isn't a fault code?

MAF is gonna matter try cleaning it or switching it with a known good one, but the high res is not a good sign, might end up being the opti in the end.

Ok, I cleared the codes and nothing else has shown. Car died at lunch again yesterday. Same thing. Idle goes up to about 2k then bogs down and almost dies. Surges again then bogs down and dies... Looked at the engine after work today while it was running and noticed the vacuum line I replaced on the pcv valve is being crimped closed by the vacuum. Car was idling fine then I pinched the hose to open it up and could hear air through it and the idle dropped. Released it and the idle went back to normal. Does this sound right? I'm sure the hose shouldn't be pinching closed like that but why would the idle drop ehen I open it back up?

Vac line on the PCV? are you sure it wasn't the vent line for the opti? It is late so maybe I'm forgetting something.

It's the line coming off the PCV. I replaced it a couple weeks ago because it was torn on the inside of the 90 degree bend. I'm thinking about putting the old one back on.

msd optis are bad about signal resolution issues. That also explains the misfiring and eventually stalling. The erratic idle could be the opti vent/vacume hose/cracked cap. Just pull it off of the manifold and see if there is any change.
Im no expert..just my 2 copper.

End of report.

I also ran a scan of the O2 sensors and they seemed pretty crazy. On one of them the level only went up when I rev'd the engine. 2 were bouncing around on their own and the 4th was at a constant mid or so level and went up when rev'd. I'm not sure if any of this could be causing my problems but I figured I'd post whatever information I have...

Quick question... I haven't been able to do anything else with the car lately due to back problems. After work today, while the car was running, I pulled the vent hose for the optispark off the intake and checked for suction. I didn't feel anything. Should I have?

Ok, I'm a little confused... The hose off the elbow of the intake doesn't go where I thought... It seemed to be clogged so I got underneath the car and pulled the vent hose off the botton of the optispark. After I did the, I could blow air freely though the hose off the elbow. I started the car back up and had suction from the hose I pulled from the optispark. Car idled for a while the just shut off. My question is, where does the hose off the elbow go? There's too much stuff in the way for me to see it...
