True. I did this with my 94 M6 back in '09, but ran into problems with the isolator (middle piece between rotor and housing). I had to sand and dremel it here and there to get it to stop rubbing the rotor in one spot.

Even better, you can vent your own with a few vacuum fittings and a vacuum harness from the boneyard- got mine from a 95 Fleetwood. You just cross vent it from the isolator and the cap. You just have to be careful where you put them.

I'm curious if they changed their design shortly after they came out, like I said mine was one of the first ones built with the round O ring instead of square and I'm 7 years 40k miles no issues.

That was specifically in response to the folks who think 2 years and counting from a twice as expensive aftermarket piece makes it something good. These "been using it for a short time and it works" comments are typical of those looking to justify their purchases, but in reality such feedback is about pointless till they exceed the expected life of the stock part.

Oh ok. What if the aftermarket part exceeds the capabilities of the stock part's limitations? Does that make it justifiable?

Just my 2 cents but I installed 3 gm Optis in a role that all blew up on me or failed with 10 miles or less on each( one was actually the test drive) that I bought from summit for my 383 that summit wouldn't warranty for me and then installed a msd unit and I've had 20000+ hard miles on it thus far with 0 problems or complaints

If you dident jump to conclusions I could have old you I only paid 400 for mine brand new on sale. The prices of a stock replacement here in Canada is $450. So before you presume to know what you talking about do us a fav out and don't. I make a lot of money and when it comes to my car I don't mind spending it on whatever I think is best. Besides I ordered a 2014 ss 1le so the msd will be someone else's problem or not.

I don't know if it specifically has anything to do with the MSD Opti problems, or other MSD components that people seem to be complaining about lately, but I've heard that MSD recently filed for Chapter 11 BK protection....

And you end up with a chinese knockoff and get mad that the product failed and complain on the internet and ruin a good company's rep and they fall closer and closer to bankruptcy.

Whatever brand one chooses, spin the rotor to ensure nothing is scraping inside before installing. Loc-tite on the rotor screws is just understood.
