4L60E swap to T56 questions
Hey guys, There are plenty of threads on this topic but wanted to call out all the LT1 T56 swappers. While im waiting on attacking the motor ive been getting the ball rolling on a T56. I find it a better route to go 6 speed before Bolt ons, Heads & cam. Anyways Met an ex worker who use to work for our company (Tire’s Choice) who selling a T56 out of his 97 LT1 for $900. He told me he went with a turbo 350 for his Track 97 camaro. We didnt have time to get into all the details of the transmission (on our way to work), but before I waste my time calling him, meeting him to see the tranny I wanted to ask a few questions.
What all miscellaneous am I going to be looking forward to besides a clutch pedal?
What gear should I run in the rear? I had a 3:73 in mind. While still maintaining better MPG at 80 vs my current A4 with 2:73
Will stock driveshaft bolt on?
Depending on the condition of the clutch, if bad what clutch should I run as a stocker or upgrade? Im not very nice to my car either.
I would expect it to need a rebuild. How much $$ & work am I looking forward to a tranny rebuild? Who sells a good bang for buck T56 rebuild kit?
Anyways thanks, hope I get a straight answers(Copy, Paste & Edit) after all questions. Excited to ditch the slow A$$ A4

ou want to harvest from the 97
T56
Bellhousing
Flywheel
pedals
hydraulics
crossmember
buy a new clutch
use your existing DS
$900 is a good $ for T56 if it works. $500-$1200 to rebuild depending on the extent

I would if my car was a track car. For now mine will see street & highway duty most days of its life. Plus 6 speeds are a lot funner & better over-all have more options if I just wanted to change the rear end for a quick (3:23 or 3:73’s) but somewhat good grocery getter or just throw 4:10’s, 4:56’s for track use. T56 I wouldnt have to worry about a converter every time I changed the rear end ratio. Though I am keeping the A4 in my garage If I had the money id just say the hell with either of which and get a quaife sequential 6 speed and not worry about a clutch. But who's going to pay 10K on a tranny?
