Default 94 vs 96-97 LT1’s

I tried a search but most of the posts didnt have the answers I was looking for.

93-95 LT1’s F-body were rated 275 horse and 96-97 Firehawk and Camaro SS’s LT1’s were rated 305hp.

What is it that makes the new LT1’s have a gain of 30 horse? Besides speed density, vented opti, ect.

Im assuming its the OBD2 or ran air?

Better flowing exhaust -3in. I pipe, muffler and CAI. Also the 96-97 heads flow slightly more (8-10 CFM. IIRC.) Thats it.

They are all the same.

The ratings changed due to changes in exhausts and cats(that most people change anyway) so they can show improvements over previous models.

Pretty sure they all had the same 2.75in exhaust, newer cars just got dual cats which flowed better then a single.

So you are wanting to know the differences between a base OBD1 v8 and an OBD2 SS/Firehawk?

They were "rated" at 305 but I guarantee they didn't make that. It was mostly due to the ram air boxes and the dual cats and exhaust options.

Btw Speed Density was only on '93 LT1s....

I read somewhere that LT1's were all underrated.. They actually make 310hp to help with the sales of the Corvette..

I'd say they were pretty accurate. My car made 281/313 Bone *** stock.

The motors themselves all make around 300 flywheel.

Stuff like emissions, intakes, and exhausts tweak the numbers a bit either way, but once a modder gets their hands on them it doesn't matter.

Pretty much all the same man, electronics and exhaust were the difference but lunge O mentioned above...once the mood bug bites it doesn't much matter. My4 favorite mods were a a gutted cat, 4.10's GMPP CAI AND 1.6 rockers. It was so much fun with those Lil mods.

My 94 SLP Firehawk #142 has a data tag stating its a 315HP LT1. Ran high 11s that surprised me, as my 00 Camaro 6speed ran 14s (depressing). I now have a well speced and built 383 and manual 700r4 and plenty of other chassis, suspension, interior including 6 point cage and I CAN'T get it to start! I dumped the obd1 and opti for a 24x kit from EFI connection, a FAST XFI with eDist ign controller all brand new. Still NO start! Flat out no spark. I can manually fire the coils from the PCM connectors, I was getting A/C signals from the cam and crank, but no fire. I removed all of it, bought a new PSI harness and a #411 PCM from an 02 Tahoe and installed them using the 24x kit. Guess what, NO spark! Now the pump runs continuously and the inj are hung open or the PCM is commanding them to run wide open. The techs at EFI are of little help. They blame the harness and/or the PCM. The harness maker helped for a short while then stopped taking calls and emails. Without an ocylloscope, I can only detect a low voltage A/c signal, but no wave form idea. I put this PCM into another car and it started right up. I took its PCM and again, no spark. This is the 3rd complete swap only to have the same problem with the one common denominator, the 24x kit. Though they say its not the problem.
Damned it, something is! Ahhhhh!

You're comparing apples and oranges...a base, early LT1, versus a later model, with the SS upgrade. FWIW, the 'base' '96-'97s were rated at 285 HP, primarily due to the change to the dual cat exhaust and the switch to MAP...

Correct.
93-95 Z28 = 275 rated hp
96-97 Z28 = 285 rated hp

By now with the age and abuse most cars have, i doubt an OBDII car would actually dyno higher than an OBDI car. Thats if you could find two stock examples.

Ok now this has got me curious so what's an early MAF LT1? and what's with the "switch to MAP"?

Don't all 94+ LT1s have a MAF and a MAP?

I may have mis-spoken. I was thinking MAP versus speed density fuel/air metering....then again I might have been thinking of Mustangs (gasp!!)

What about the Vette’s? I did a search on the cam differences and most pages say the cams are basically the same. Only difference is dual exhausts, dual cats, 4 bolt mains.

Compared to the F-body exhaust, that is a BIG difference....
