You want to know what it would take to beat a 3rd gen with an LS1 with unknown mods? Is this a serious question?

Put a 300 shot retard your timing by about 5* and stomp the gas.

What he said. We know nothing of what he has or what you have. However, it doesn't take much for an LT1 to beat a stock LS1. To be quick and straight to the point, the right set of heads and cam would do it. If he has slight mods, add some nice rear end gears. Of course you can always go with race gas to help out. Tossing a small bottle will help a lot.

I'd say yes. I have an '86 V8 automatic Firebird with no weight modifications and it's 3280 without driver.
I've not weighed my son's 96 4th gen, but reports from other owners have them quite a bit above that on average.
