You know reading a magazine is not meaningful research? Do some reading here, don't pay attention to the "I just bought such and such and am so happy" comments. Look for what folks have to say after they have some actual experience and see what they have to say after the REdo things right the second time and how much different those results are.

Almost all positive Golen reviews come from sometime between placing the order and BEFORE the tuning phase. Some are even happy after the tuning but then maybe you never hear of a real track result, but even better would be if you look for reviews from a year after the purchase, around the time guys are pulling the engines to put a new crank in it or redoing the heads and cam.

One b-body guy who got all bent out of shape when I told him he was making a mistake going to Golen later had the engine develop a rod knock and they found a crossthreaded rodbolt.......................Needless to say he later thanked me for TRYING to help him before he screwed himself.

X2

I did a lot of research NOT from magazines and learned a lot. I joined this forum and learned even more. These guys real world experiences weigh a lot more than what some magazines and customer testimonials posted on websites are. Golen is one that I have heard nothing but negative things about. So double check everything before pulling the trigger. That's my $0.02

I always prefer they keep the factory regulator. It's one less thing they can screw up. :-)
They had issues with some of the early models YEARS ago. I had one that went bad and they graciously replaced it with the newer model and not a single problem. The new design is a solid one.

I wouldn't trust much from a magazine. Come here, the other LT1 forums, and read allll night and you'll start getting the picture. Its a real downer to put an engine together and then get told it might break any second.
