Anyway, your problem could most likely be in the ignition switch. Over time the contacts can get worn and in this case, may not be supplying the voltage necessary to engage the starter solenoid. Have you put a volt meter to the purple wire to see what kind of voltage you get when you trigger the ignition?

Basically you need two people to do this. Put the volt meter on DC for Direct Current. Place one lead on the purple wire and the other on ground. Have someone inside the car turn the ignition to the "start" position. Read the voltage. Should be a steady 12 volts.
