I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, i have a 98+ front end conversion so the ram air hood should help push out some of the heat, i also plan to go with headers since theyre lighter than the cast manifolds and easier to cool, and have less heat soak to the motor. When im at the track i always buy a bag of ice and place it on the intake manifold. But i take the ice out of the bag it comes in and put it in a thicker bag so the water doesnt leak out all over the motor and kill the opti. Other than that, i havent came up with much to do. I need to put my front air dam back on. the car was wrecked before i got it and it was broken off, so when i replace it that should help some as well. I was thinking about wrapping the headers, but ive seen too much bad about doing that, so im kind of skeptical about it.
Also, if you were referring to me when you said if all i plan on doing is racing... i dont plan on just racing the car, its my DD i have an all out race car i race. im just tinkering with my street car.
Yes u definitely need that air dam for a street car/use. Thats an under air scoop for the radiator. And BTW my PCMforless trans cooler mounts just above that air dam and fits great. U can ask any trans shop what kills an auto trans and they will say mostly heat. I have 260K mi on my dodge dually behind a cummings and the original auto trans has never been rebuilt - it also has a huge trans cooler.
As for the air scoop u can tape yarn strings to the hood and watch the air flow direction to verify correct flow - may need to tape a camera too. But for airscoop to be effective it needs to stick above the surface at least an inch and then it will only see like 1/2psi at 100mph. IMHO it better to let the hot air out with top vents and let the air dam do its job.
