Default Optispark replacment NO POWER now. IM STUCK IN LA

So my opti went out not to long ago and i just finished replacing the cap and rotor. It seems the rotor broke off the little tab that holds it in place so it was spining freely. I would get loud backfires and would not start. anyways i replaced it along with an accel ignition coil and it started right up, only problem is that it has no power at lower RPMs and it will backfire and then bog down but pick back up. It also sounds like i got a cam installed.

I feel as if the timing might have been thrown off as i did spin the crankshaft pully when trying to remove it. i finally got it off but did not know in what position it was on. i did not rotate the hub at all so i could not have thrown it off from there i think but i did not remember in which way i removed it. The balancer came off easily and when back on easily, it was only hard when trying to put it back in diffrently so i dont know if this was it.

Also possibly mabye i got the spark park wires on wrong. i doubled checked them but i still might have missed the psgr side since its so hard to see.

Any help is greatly appriciated as im currently stuck in LA and have school tommarow in San Fransisco. Thanks guys for the help.

i have a 94 LT1 Stock, BAD CATS.

Optispark could be installed off 180 degrees and/or mixed up plug wires. Also wires can be not seated completely, you need make sure you hear each one snap on.

You did not index the opti correctly or you mixed up plug wires.

im thinking plug wires becuase when i removed the old rotor it was broken(the little nipple that goes into the curcular disc) so there was only one way it could have been seated. ill go check the plugs guys. is there anything i could have missalligned with the balancer?

Thanks guys, life savers.

The backfiring is a timing issue, and because you changed the central nervous system of the ignition then that is your issue. Did you take the opti completely off when you changed the cap/rotor? If so, it would seem the splined shaft is not indexed correctly. And no, do not drive it like that until you find out what's going on.

I'd call autozone before you make the trip to see if they can read OBD 1 codes.

Definitely.

You did not answer the previously asked question as to whether you took the opti completely off.

sorry about that. no i just replaced the cap and rotor. So i dont se as how i could have installed it wrong, the little tab on the rotor only goes in one way. unless it fell off when i installed the cap on but i mad sure it stayed in place when i installed it.

Pull your PCM BAT fuse for 30 seconds. Fuse #4 in the instrument panel.

You really should have replaced the entire opti is my guess....not just cap and rotor. Is there a dealership around still open?

You have several symtoms and at least one code of opti failure:

i spent 200 on the cap and rotor so im broke now with all the other **** ive bought. Damit. I ordered the opti from autozone and told them the opti spark, when i got there it was just the cap and rotor and the guy said that how they come and that all i need. I should have listened to my instincts and not have taken the part out of desperation.
