Default Mill head or just use thinner head gasket?

Alright so I'm basically doing an overhaul so everything is stock bottom end for now. Jusy my machinist suggested why not mill the heads alil. I want the Mr gasket head gasket which will bring it up to roughly 11.1. Will be ran on 91 octane. My machinist suggested mill the heads to make it at least 12.1 since these motors like compression. Should I go ahead and let him mill them if so how much should I get milled? or just stick to thinner head gasket?

Stock cam? If so, just run the thinner gasket.

^^What he said.

IMO don't touch the heads unless you're going to put in a cam that accommodates it.

.039 or .040 is were ya want the quench... So deck the block to 9.014 & run the .026 gasket... Victor Reinz = 5898 & the Mr Gasket is 5716... Youll still have room for more later that way!!! Thats the way My 355 is

If you wack the heads now they are much less likely to be suitable for CNC cores later.

If the block is bare I might clean up the deck with a light cut but wouldn't get wild and I would use the thin gaskets.

You need to do a base/clean up cut to "true" the heads.

Always use a thinner gasket if quench allows it, you can't put back on what you cut off the heads.

Better know your camshaft with 12.1 on pumpgas.

BTW, milling 1 full point of compression?? Really?

Hmmm, keep an eye on your "machinist".

Thanks for the advice guys I'm going to listen to all of your advice and just clean/ true up the heads, not mill them and just go with a thinner head gasket. I cant get back what I take of and I'm sure they won't be good cores for later down the road. I'm also going to assume they are not worth anything either if he suggest to port and polish the heads and intake
