Default 12 second bolt on LT1 times!!!

Went to US41 for a track rental today, Ill just say I am very happy with my numbers

Mods are as follows:
93 Z28 A4 109,xxx miles
FLP level 3 trans w/ vig2800
3.73 gears
CAI w/ homemade ramair
March UD pully
3" exhaust from y-pipe back w/ cutout

I ran the car on skinnies w/ the spare out but I still had the subs and amp in the car.
When i finally got the car to hook and ran that time I stopped for the day, probably could have bettered my 60' I really dont think 1.78 with a vig2800 is all that impressive, good but not great

All in all a good day

Good time for such little bolt-ons. The rear gears probably helped the most.

that coinverter and those gears are a perfect matchup for a bolt on LT1. Get some good headers and drop another 2-3 tenths and gain the same in MPH. GREAT times for such a high milage car and so few mods. Congrats and enjoy your quick ride.

That 60' is very good for not having sticky tires, IMO. That's a 60 that most people can hardly hit with those mods on drag radials. Very good time

Sorry I forgot to mention this was on BFG DR's. A 1.78 on street tires would be sweet though
Thanks though, I want to hit a 12.5 w/o headers then i will put them on I will need to work on my 60', relocation brackets will be needed though.

Ahh yeah that makes more sense now. That is a good 60' though. You ran an excellent time.

Ummm, automatic transmissions are traditionally much better for drag racing than manual transmissions.

Lets not start a huge debate here but just a little FYI its not so much that they are better beucase of performance... just more consistant.

If you have a perfectly set auto with super dialed in stall ratio/stall speed/ gear ratio/ tire size and traction then maybe an auto will perform better then a great stick driver. The problem is there isnt many GREAT stick drivers out there. And it doesnt take much skill to drive an auto compared to a stick. I powershift my car whenever I go to the track and have never missed a shift. I'm still on my origional clutch and trans with a lil over 57,000 miles. True autos are usually more consistent then sticks but again this totally depends on the driver. Whenever I go to the track I can be just as consistent as auto drivers. It just takes skill and concentration

I have never once seen somebody shift faster than a computer can.

?? first of all stock autos dont usually shift fast at all..Thats why they are called slushboxes. They usually have penty of lag in between shifts. Shift kits help eliminate this alot. Of course this all depends on the particular car, programming etc. I dont know if you have ever been in a car while someone is powershifting... But when I do it, my shift light is set at 5800 and as soon as it comes on I am in the next gear. I dont take my foot off the gas and the rpms dont peak that much. Not only does this usually produce a quicker shift than an auto but also a much more powerful one putting much more power through the drivetrain. Most autos have protection built into their computers to help fight against this kind of violent shift, therefore not putting as much power down through the shifts. Now if you delete all of the torque management out, put in a really hard shifting shift kit, then you might be pretty close..
Its the owner of the cars job then to make sure that power gets to the ground, thats why there are sticky tires, suspension mods etc....
