engine swap
first question. i have a 96 z28 auto and my cylinder gasket just leaked on me. is it okay to swap a 94,95,97 engines with pcm and harness without having any problems or to do any mods? thanks guys 2nd question. is there any one here ever tried using a standalone wiring harness?

Why do you want to swap the Harness? Just use whatever motor you want and match the front cover timing chain opti and intake from your 96 to it. It will be easier to swap these things on an engine stand than matching up the wires that may be different on the harness hat the connectors.

Are you saying you are swapping motors because of a blown head gasket? That seems like a complete waste of time. Unless the car has been sitting for months and the cylinders are getting rusty, no reason to swap motors. But if you feel you need to, any 96-97 LT1 will bolt right up. A 95 motor needs your timing cover, reluctor wheel, timing set, and dampener. A 93-94 motor needs your timing cover, reluctor wheel, timing set, and dampener and changing the cam dowel pin length. A 93 also needs you intake.

i just want to drop in a new motor so i can rebuild the motor with blown head gasket. so 97 lt1 can replace a 96 motor right? sweet! what about a 96 impala or 96 firebird? those are lt1 as well but i think ima need a different harness and computer on them right?

No, as long as it's a '96 LT1 from a vette, or 96-97 Camaro, Formula, Trans Am, or Impala, it will drop right in and run.
