I had a hardtop, green, automatic Trans Am GT as my first car. I may be able to answer some general questions, owned it for two years before upgrading to a 97 WS6.

Edit: and it was cloth interior

Wouldn't that be Y83? My base Trans Am is a Y82.

Yeah, the glove box shows Y83 in my GT. Mine came with leather, (dot-matrix) t-tops, T-56, factory CD player.

For the most part, it sounds like the GT option is predominantly a distinction without a difference (speedo and tires?). I could post a photo of the RPOs if it helps with anything, but not sure it matters.

Speedo, tires, and top speed limiter for sure.

I'm wondering if the automatic cars came with 3.23 gears, performance transmission button, and 1st gear selectability standard as well.

You are correct. When I ordered mine I specifically asked for the high rise spoiler, but it arrived with the low one and the explanation that due to limited visibility from the ragtop rear window, the high rise was not available from the factory.

Default 1994 Trans Am GT with Formula rear bumper

I am looking to purchase a 1994 Trans AM GT with 19,000 mile on it. One thing that I have a hard time researching is the fact that this Trans Am has a formula rear bumper. Was a Formula rear bumper a option or standard for a 1994 Trans Am GT. Story goes this car was ordered from the factory and had to wait for delivery of the car. Also looking for opinion on color?

That's not the original bumper...somebody most likely rear-ended it and the body shop or the owner cheaped out or just ordered the wrong Formula/Firebird rear bumper. TA's have the squared off exhaust outlets around the bumper and continue the side skirts behind the rear wheels.

I'm pretty sure that is "mystic teal"...not sure if pontiac had a different paint color name. Very common color of the era; my dad had a similar color, an "Aqua" teal colored 92' Corvette convertible back in the 90's...very Miami Vice like!

I had initially thought the same with the bumper. When I looked under the car, I saw no evidence of a major collision or for that matter the bumper being removed. I know not much can be seen under the car if it was just a replacement bumper with no major damage being done. Carfax also did not have any reported incidences. The lady that owns the car said it was what came with the car when she ordered it. Everything I have seen does not even give one example of the Formula bumper on a 94 TA GT. Was there any case that Pontiac/GM may have used this type of bumper on a TA? She still has the window sticker and it says the color is AQUA.

Maybe some Canadian was boozing it up on the assembly line back in the day? Or they ran out of TA bumpers that day? Or the lady won't admit she had a small bump up with the original bumper? I've owned a TA and every one I've seen has the TA specific rear bumper with the matching side skirts Formulas or Firebirds don't have. It kinda looks funny without the matching side skirts IMO. Makes the rear end of the car look higher since the side skirt "ground effects" visually lower the car.

Thank you for all your input on this. Yes I do agree that it does make the car look strange that the rear end just tails up with that bumper. Right now we are at $9000 for purchase. Just need to decide if a 94 TA GT with 19,000 miles on it with a "alternate/wrong" rear bumper is worth it. All that I see for sale are in the 12k and up range.

I'm surprised I have seen this thread until today. When I was compiling the RPO breakdowns from CompNine's database years ago, I was always a bit mystified on the T/A GT and the Y83 RPO. Here's what I've found:

In '93, all T/As had RPO Y83.
In '94, T/A coupes had RPOs Y82 or Y83, while T/A verts used RPO Y84, but 3 were built w/ RPO Y83 instead (early production error?). I didn't really pay attention to the Y82/Y83/Y84 distinction for the 25th Anniversary cars, so I'm kind of surprised that a GT could also be a 25th Anniv car too.
In '95, T/A coupes had RPO Y82, but 5 were built w/ RPO Y83 instead (GT build-out to fill orders from MY '94?), while all T/A 'verts had RPO Y84.
From '96 to '02, all T/A coupes had RPO Y82 and all T/A 'verts had RPO Y84.

I'd love to add anything that's still missing. Reading through the info above, any other points/misconceptions you can shed some light on with sources? This is still a very debated topic to this day and it's nice to be able to have a compiled source for people wanting to learn/get clarification.

Man those wheels were horrendous, if memory serves the 3.4's version was even worse.
