Default Idle issue (more detail)

I've been having an idling issue on my 95' z28. It started doing it one day and hasn't stopped since.

The issue: basically I have a high idle during start up and when the car is rolling, it then slowly comes down when the car comes to a stop.

1. It hangs around 2k at startup and slowly falls to 1500 when cold, around 1100 when warm.

2. It will hold at between 1500-2000 in neutral when the car is rolling.

3. It will drop down to between 1300-1500 when it comes to a complete stop.

4. If you blip the throttle a bit it will idle between 900-1100 after coming to a stop. This is only when it's warm. Sometimes it will slowly creep back up, other times it will stay down.

5. I replaced the iac valve and there'sno change. Should I reset it?

6. I've checked pretty extensively for vacuum leaks and haven't found any.

yes you would need to reset a new IAC...

high idle often from vac leaks but you say you have none

I have the EXACT symtoms as you, only slightly lower rpm amounts... I too replaced the IAC and did the reset... along with a **** ton of other parts and the symptom remains. Once in a while the car will stall while cold and idling...but it wont stall if I blip the throttle a couple times while its cold....then it does what it should. Idles around 1100 or so, idles down as it warms up. I think the two are related some how. Other than that the car runs flawlessly.

The high idle (2000rpm) whenever the speed sensor is reading speed seems to just be a 6 speed thing. However, I would check the throttle blades/linkage for binding or carbon build up. Mine does the same thing, but when you come to a stop it settles back down to under 1000 rpm (stock cam). Hope this helps, Eric L

I've heard that it was a common problem with 6-speed cars. I just thought it was weird that it was normal one day, then an annoying shitbox the next.
