Default who would win?

Kid at my school with a 97 mustang gt. His buddy said he only has exhaust and aftermarket clutch. I got a 95 trans am with no smog pump, egr, or cats. I think I could take him, but what do you guys think?

A stock(ish) F-body will walk all over a stock(ish) mustang all day long, that's what they were built for. Granted you have the lowest rated motor in the 4th gens, but it still shouldn't be a problem. Is your car an auto or standard?

You will absolutely murder him, he would probably run 14.7- 15.1 in the quarter mile
you could run anywhere from 13.8-14.1
those are just average times for those cars but your car is generally a full second faster in the quarter mile stock for stock which is a lot

It'll be a whoopin. Hell the 1998+ Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's handle those Mustang GT's with ease.

Lol, not the 3.4, but the 275 HP LT1 instead of a 285 or 300 horse version. It was a sympathetic remark though, I have a 95 too

The 275, 285 and 300hp versions were the same motor, put a CAI and log tubes on any of them and they are the same. I highly doubt even stock there is ANY difference in power. If you don't crush him you suck at driving.

I know this is for an F-Body, but for curiosity what about a 93 with dual cats?

Corvette's were rated higher. In 1993 the Corvette LT1 is factory rated at 300hp.

The only difference between the F-Body and Y-Body LT1 was the exhaust (dual for the Vette) and intake tubing. They underrated the F-Body for marketing purposes.

The actual horsepower difference from the exhaust and intake tubing is less than advertised. Probably 15hp max. Looking at dyno runs, you'll see the Vette's will lay down about 275-280 (M6 w/ exhaust, tune, and CAI mods) vs the F-bodies 260-275 (M6 w/ exhaust, tune, and CAI mods).
