I agree with this. My little 355 does fine at 1450rpms in 6th @ 65mph. It does do better at 75mph though (1650rpms). No lugging at all. The lowest I've had 6th was 45mph ~ 1000 rpms without bucking; it definitely bogged though.

But, a 383 would have a bit more low end for sure. When I rebuild this one I'll likely go with a 383 though.

The added HP from the extra displacement is minimal. Heads and can might add 100+rwhp. Stroker with bigger can might add another 20-25 and cost just as much as the heads/can/valve train.
Again not saying strokers are bad, just a bandwagon jumped on much too quickly without comprehension.

I completely understand. It's not peak I'm looking at. A 383 has 7.75% more stroke than a 35Xcid. Assuming not additional losses from the added stroke it's a 7.75% increase in torque output. That's worth about 30hp on my build. But all things are not equal. The cam will peak lower so the torque curve shifts to the left a bit. That'll bring that 30hp down to about 15-20. But 420ft/lbs at 4000rpms would be more fun than 391 at 4600....
