Default What's the difference between caprice lt1 and firebird lt1

While taking off my heads on my firebird a head bolt broke the tip broke and is deep in there. I have a spare lt1 from a caprice and was wondering what is the difference between the engines because I was planning on slapping on that motor and building mine and taking it to a machine shop to get that bolt removed but initially I want to know the difference between both motors is there a difference in hp torque cam

The camshaft is slightly milder in the Caprice and it has iron heads vs aluminum.

Because I'm afraid the caprice cam power band is shorter than the firebirds

If you have a stock TC and stock gearing, your 0-60 and 1/4 ET could be slightly better with the B-cam.
I shifted my stock B-cam motor at 5900 for best ET's.
If you are considering changing cams in the B-body shortblock, I wouldn't waste time installing a stock F-cam into it. Not enough of a difference to even notice.

Well I have 3.73 gears I wanted to just throw that motor with my headers and nitrous and see how it does but I wanted to make sure everything will be ok with the CPU and everything I already have a transmission from a caprice

You are way too worked up over the differences of the b-body setup. Realistically the pcm tuning was a bigger difference than the stuff you are worried about. The f-body was tuned for 91 octane, the b-body for 87 octane but it managed to make as much torque sooner and was only down on peak Hp a little, in Bolton trim they make very similar peak numbers with the b-body always retaining a low end advantage.

If anything I think the f-body cam was compromised to help the POS axle they got, rather than the common assumption the b-body was the compromised one.

Some of the B bodies came with the L99, looks identical to the LT1 except it is a 4.3L V8 instead of a 5.7L of the LT1. I always thought it would be cool to take one & use the crank & rods from the L99 & put it into the LT1 & make a 302ci version.
