Chris Sikora, who ran an 8.9x at around 160mph using an Iron block LT1, LT4 style intake, an a Vortech YS blower. There are several other guys right near there though, including Dave "Sled" DeLuca (N2O LT1) and Brian "Madman" Jeffries (ATI S/C LT1). They have both run 9.10s at around 155mph. George Baxter is closer, running around 9.04@155mph. All are using automatic trannies, probably 5000+ stalled/transbraked TH400s. Not sure on that one though.
While Sikora has broken the 8 second barrier, in my opinion Baxter has the best setup, with his motor putting out around 1200 flywheel horsepower proven on an engine dyno. His car, however, is a 3900 lb full-interior Convertible '97 SS.
Unfortunately, Madman and Baxter have both swapped out their LT1s in favor of Gen-I SBCs
Others worth mentioning are Joe "The Underdog" Overton who just recently ran 9.50s in his All-motor 388ci LT1. Again, this is an automatic car.
The fastest M6 record belongs to Taner Bosnali, whose car I'm absolutely in love with... he's gone 9.60s@141mph on the stock T-56. I'm totally in love with his car, it's blue '96 SS, sounds insane. Part of the reason for his success is his driving talent and suspension mods, he can launch "easy" 1.2-1.4 second 60's (if you want to call them "easy", lol)
Unfortunately, the LS1s are pretty far ahead of us. Their fastest car is a Ronnie Duke C5R car running 8.52, it was recently featured GMHTP. Now 4 tenths isn't that far ahead, but if you keep in mind that the car is a 3700-lb full interior convertible, you can tell how ready they are to break 7s.
Hope this helped.
