Default Power steering pump help

I am replacing my power steering pump on a 96 ws6. The part of the pump that has a big knuckle at the very end, located towards the top side of the pump, is very hard to put in. I have tried lubricating it with motor oil and dish soap, are there any suggestions that could make this application easier. Someone recommended Vaseline to me, but I am not to sure if that will work. Thank you.

What are you talking about? The PS pump is easy. Slide it into place, connect high pressure line, bolt it down, connect reservoir hose. You did take the alternator out, right?

What did you contaminate with dish soap?
Basically anything but brakes/clutch and their hydraulics will be OK with some vaseline, but I would be hard pressed to come up with anything I would try to slip together with a degreaser like dish soap.
If you put dish soap on something exposed to power steering I would flush repeatedly once back together.

Are you trying to press the pulley back on the pump?? There's a tool for that. Or maybe I don't quite understand what you're doing, your description is sorta vague.
