Default lifters

i currently have ls7 lifters in my car. im going to be doing a refresh of my motor and while im in there id figure id replace them with newer lifters since they got some miles and my buddies car had 4 wiped out ones. who makes a good lifter these days? lunati is a reboxed morel, comp cams gernade along with ls7s. are ls6 lifters good? ive been doing research but ive read good and bad reviews on all the lifters. i spin my motor to about 6600 and link bars sound cool also. any input would be awesome

There are plenty of $200-250 lifters out there but I don't think any of them are much better than the LS7s. All of these are .700" wheel.
Crower 66330-16 (made overseas and only leakdown tested by Crower)
Lunati 72438-16 (what Lloyd usually recommends... probably street series Morels)
Howard's Cams 91174 (???)

There are $300-350 linkbar Lunati/Morel street series lifters that are only more expensive bc no dogbones.

Then there are Johnson 2110 (aka BTR, .700" wheel, used in the COPO) for ~$380-430.
And it only gets more expensive from there with .750" Morels (4708, 5206, etc.) for ~$500-550 and beyond.

Don't judge a lifter simply by its wheel size. Larger wheels can make the lifter body itself weaker (forks at the bottom instead of covered).

All depends on what you wanna spend.

IMO, LS7s are infant mortality things so if yours lasted, I would reuse em.

I have the Comp short travel race lifters in my 396, PN 15850-16. They are $464 at Summit. The motor has 10 dyno pulls, 2 1/4 mile track passes, and about 150 street miles on it. So far, they are still nice and quiet. I've had the engine up to 6800 RPM as well.

Yes, heads needs to come off with the crowers posted. Adam is running Lunati link bars. We were able to sneak them in with the heads on.

Link bars lifters are generally taller and will hit the head before being out of the lifter bore. Some brands are able to be finessed out,

The Morel 5315 are much better then the LS7 lifters for not much more money. There is a thread floating around discussing the differences.

Those are the street series morels. They're rated to 6500. Ls guys break them every so often but their lobes are generally more aggressive. They'll probably be fine.

What about the GM PERFORMANCE LIFTER KIT: NAL-12371042? Seems like everyone jumped on the LS7 bandwagon and they turned out to be hit or miss. This kit has been kind of forgotten about. There hasnt been and negatives written about it from what i can find.

Anyone have experience with it?

There was one where the axle came out and the whole lifter got jammed in its bore and another where a chunk of the body broke off. They aren't as troublesome as the cheap link bars that like to come apart though. "The Street lifters are meant for cams under 230 Duration at .050" and under .550 lift with the .700" wheel design, per Ed Morel himself." Sounds underrated but I guess they're trying to cover their asses.

I went with the Johnsons because I'm running a ton of seat pressure and didn't want to fork over $500+ for 4708s or some links that can't be removed with heads on. I hope they are worth it and don't come apart... only one way to find out.

That GM kit looks like it has generic Delcos. The part number doesn't match up with the LS7s though. I thought that was the standard replacement.

Pretty sure that was a older design. the new units from 2014 on have fixed that problem.
