Default STS rear mounted turbo.

I am wondering what you guys think of this turbo set-up? It is supposely better than engine compartment mounted turbos. Your input would be great.

I have checked them out and still look at it as a possibility even with a 427 18* engine under the hood. they seem to be working well for most but have not heard of anyone pushing the limits with one yet

good point, helluva investment to lose to a hacksaw, think they'd take the entire car first though. I don't care for the watered down turbo it comes with but they do offer variations, with a little enginuity someone could build their own setup with more potential gains.

I'm with OneMeanZ, heard different things. Looks to me like there would be a lot of lag since boost has to go back to the front of the car. I read a post on here that said there wasn't any lag. Might be a good setup for stocker engines but if I were doing a buildup, I'd call Rob Raymer @ QMP for a big daddy (if he'll still do them).

This setup is what I origonally was going to go for hence the 93turboLT1. I was going to do exactly denny said, but the engine ended up draining all my funds, and I sold the turbo I was going to use. But it looks simple enough to make yourself, and if you wondering about lag, or intercooling, there a lot to learn about turbocharging that gets around those areas easily. The kits comes with a quick spooling turbine in the turbo, which eliminates most of the lag, and you guys are forgetting that its not going on a 4 banger, which has no torque in the first place until the turbo kicks in. The LT1 will kick your *** stock, then when the turbo does kick in hold on! the quick spooling of the turbo will hinder its ablity to create big boost, so it has its limits. I'm sure you can upgrade you turbo, but there will be more lag, but big turbos are usually put on built engines to make up for it. The STS design is cool because theres no need for a innercooler, and that eliminates about half of the difficulty of putting a turbo on a LT1. SO, i'd say its a good setup/kit, and its cheap as hell compared to any other turbo kits out there. But if you has some inginuity, and determination, i'd say just build your own.....thats what i'm going to do....just later rather then sooner....
