Default 96 z28 running rich

Hello out there, first time blogger. I have a 96 z28 convertible 6 speed and it seems to run really rich. Its been cammed, has solid lifters, Holley throttle body, kn filter and not sure of anything else. I just got it and I also noticed an oil leak on the front of the engine. Not sure where it's coming from but there is a bunch of gasket sealer under the wp. The last owner said it was 425hp, it's definitely not there. Any suggestions?

Solid lifters? really? Is the pcm reprogrammed for the mods?

Supposedly all work was professionally done. What is the difference in having solid lifters?

If it is running rich how professional could it have been?
LOTS of cars are very badly modded and sold because the dimwitt who made the bad choices can't make it run right.

I don't know the caliber of knowledge the people had when doing the work. The car was handed down to me and I want to make it right.

Are you sure is rich? Cammed up and !emissions will make it seem rich. 425rwhp should seem rich to a normal emissions compliant LT1. Do you have a data log with a wideband to confirm your suspicion?

I have nothing. It also will idle so low it sometimes stalls.

That could just be the upgrade in cam without and/or even with a tune if the quality of tune was poor.

Where You located we can point you in the right direction on Tuners!!! If its got oil leaks & you dont know the cam or anything else... Pullin the motor to reseal it will let you find out what cam #s are on the snout plus you can see if the things really a solid roller!!! Most solid rollers need lots of supporting mods to run on the Street!!!

With the 425hp number and sounding like it might not have been tuned I wonder if this is just a HOT cam and a clueless previous owner. Meaning not solid and untuned probably 100hp shy of 425hp.

With as little as you know about the car I think you need to buy some beer and get an enthusiast to help you figure out what you have before you can bring it to a professional.

I'm up for that but if I don't have any documents telling me what was done, how could I tell the specifics without pulling the engine apart? Would a dyno tune tell what is what inside like cam specs of whatever?

You should have asked a lot more questions and asked for receipts, or proof of some sort of what was done. You can't tell what it has without taking it apart, which is why it's important to get that info first. I would track down whoever you bought it from and ask for the full details or all that they know about it. Hopefully the last owner was the one who did the mods, otherwise it will be a guessing game. Probably half of all "built" lt1s are simply a stock LT1 with a Hot cam and 1.6 roller rockers/Lt4 springs added.
