Default Installing crankshaft hub

for 1996 impala SS. Do I need heavy hammer to press the hub enough inward so that the hub bolt can begin to being screwed and then completing pressing the hub and then tightening it.

You never use a hammer or the bolt to install the hub. Use an install tool or make one from high strength all thread, nuts and washers.

Wow, OK. Does the hub to be installed one way? I mean is there a certain direction to install it?

You can ruin the thrust bearing if you use a hammer.

Some say it is not critical that it goes back on like it came from the factory. That is probably generally true, since the hub and pulley are supposed to be neutrally balanced. It is though possible that some slight tweaks could have been done before it left the factory.

If you want to put it back on like it was, if only for purposes of being able to identify crank position by the arrow on the pulley, you should be able to see a shadow line inside the hub where the crank key lines up. Translate that mark to the outside of the hub with a Sharpie and line that up during install. Or with the crank at 1 or 6 TDC, the cast line on the hub should be at 12 o'clock. One spoke on the hub should be pointing straight down.

Need help. I bought the threaded bar and cut it to a suitable length, bought washers and nut to make the LT1 hub installer. Now when I tighten the nut to press the hub in toward the crank the threaded bar got unscrewed and get out!, how to use that thing?

I found it out, the threaded bar thickness was wrong I have to use the correct bar thickness same as the crank snout bolt thickness.
