Default Need LT1 Supercharging advice

Iam a new poster, and have a few questions I hope I can get some help on.

I presently have a 383 SBC in a Datsun Z, and I am considering an engine upgrade. I can either build my first generation 383, or use my LT1 from a 93 Camaro, I have the full wiring harness, and a Vortech supercharger.

I have an effective stall of ~2500 and 4.11 gears, and my goal is >=400 RWHP. The car has headers and a free flowing dual 3" exhaust.

From what I have read, the 93 fuel injectors will be the first problem because of insufficient fuel flow, and then the MAP.

1. Are the 93 Injectors too small for ~400 RWHP?

2. I prefer to use stock pistons (to save $$$), but is that being penny wise and dollar foolish? Or should I use forged pistons, and lower CR to <=9? (especially since juice might be added--no HP ever seems to be enough)

3. Will a reprogrammed chip handle the engine with an LT 4 Hot Cam without continual black smoke, and or have other problems?

4. Should I sell the LT1 and simply build my 383?

I have received conflicting advice from friends and other boards. Some say a MAP won't ever run right, others have said no problem with a custom chip. I wish I had a MAF but I have a MAP, and don't want to invest more $$$ into a setup that is doomed to fail, or perform poorly. But Iam willing to switch to a later wiring harness/setup if that will enable 'proper' operation of the setup.

Thanks for your time and help

Umm for a simple answer, go with the first gen motor. I kinda wish I had went with a carb on my LT1 to save $$$ and headaches. Even doing that, LT1 stuff was expensive anyway so an old SBC would have been much easier! Oh yeah, get forged pistons. They're too cheap to skip out on. You can get away with stock crank and rods for 400 hp easily but supercharging with forged pistons is always the better route. With supercharging, I would be shooting more for 500 hp if I were you, unless you're not doing heads and cam work.

Honestly, I would sell the LT1 and mod the SBC.

I had the feeling I was starting on a path of never ending problems.

Since you have a supercharged motor, I know you have first hand experience. And yes I am seeking around 500 hp or ~400 RWHP. I of course want more since I presently have ~310 RWHP

I can change from 1.94/1.6 swirl truck heads to Camfeild aluminum and a charger to the 383 and probably get 425 RWHP. I won't dare say easily, but it should be achievable.

Nice board and thanks for the quick replies.
