After a year of research, gathering parts, numerous trips to the machine shop, and lots of (mostly) enjoyable hours in the garage I managed to get my car fired up back in mid November. Fired up the first time cranking with no leaks, noises, or check engine lights.
Managed to get 150 break in miles on it before the weather took a **** in IL. Runs real good so far. Managed to get it to 6,000 a few times my last time out for some datalogging runs. Will be shooting for 6,800+ after it is fully broken in next spring. The new pistons are about 100g lighter than stock and the machine shop said they had to drill quite a bit of weight out of the counterweights when they balanced it. You can definitely tell it likes to rev.
I am attaching a few pdf files in case anyone is looking to do a similar build in the future. I tried to do a fairly budget minded but quality/performance rebuild. Not sure I would go through this whole exercise again. I can certainly see why a correctly built crate engine is worth the money if you can swing it.
Hoping it keeps running good and stays together as I get more miles on it in the spring. Need to get a 4.10 gear in the car pretty bad. Also need to do a little more fine tuning and maybe eventually get some dyno number and track times.
