To Shim or Not to Shim?

To Shim or Not to Shim? Just finished installing my new FTI converter and noticed there is around an 1/8" of gap between the converter pads and the flexplate. Never really paid attention to it with my old converter. Whats the consensus on running washers between the converter pads and the flexplate to "shim" it vesus just tightening the converter against the flexplate?

At a 1/8 gap do not shim it. That is perfect. Put the bolts in and in turn will pull the tabs against the flex plate. The converter needs to be pulled away from the pump a bit to allow for flex, in turn not taking out the pump binding and pushing the pump inward
