LT1 copper header gasket
I have a 383 Ellwein LT1 which runs awesome! I have long tube pacesetter headers on it. Now I used the pacesetter compressed paper like material exhaust header gaskets. After a couple thousand miles of driving these exhaust header gaskets got hard, brittle and cracked. Then began the exhaust flapping sound from the header to cylinder gasket connection. So I backed all the header bolts completely out except for the outer most 2 header bolts. This gave me 1/4" of room with which to pull out the cracked gasket. I have a pair of SCE copper LT1 header gaskets. I believe these will do the trick. There is only light carbon on the cylinder head surface, but I really can't reach it to clean. Will it be ok to leave it like this, and slap the copper header gaskets in place, and torque the bolts back?
Thank you!!
