Default Crane 227 vs cc305 cam

Another cam thread!!
Before throwing this cc305 in im torn between possibly going with a smaller cam.
I will mostly be shifting around 4500-5500rpm, would the crane 227 cam be faster than the cc305 at these rpms? Im kind of getting creeped out thinking about the cc305 114lsa and big 230 exhaust duration. I dont want a turd car under 3500rpm.
I heard the crane 227 has monster torque and can run just as fast as the hotcam.
Im running stock heads, ewp, 1.6 rr's, headers, and its a six speed with 342 gears. 95% street driven. Any suggestions?

the 227 is a stump puller and works well in heavy cars that need TQ down low and throughout mid range. For an off the shelf I would go 227 vs 305

Lloyds 218/224 is also a very good TQ cam

The hot cam will likely make more HP up top RPM range vs these but your 95% street driving would be happier with a cam that makes more TQ at lower RPM, My $.02

227 hands down for your setup and use.

Overlap is a bigger determination of power band than merely duration at 0.050" lift. You need to look at the intake open and exhaust closing events, lobe separation angle is only the cam degrees between the intake and exhaust hitting full lift. The CC305 has about 10 more degrees of overlap and will make peak power at a higher rpm than the 227. The 227 will probably make less peak power but it will make peak power quicker with a wider power band and require less gear to do so efficiently. Like others have stated the 227 will be better especially given you want to run stock gears but the CC305 is hardly a large cam for a stock headed car.

The le 212/222 114lsa cam might be an option or the le 218/224 cam. If i can find the 227 cam for 250-300 bucks i would buy it.

The 212/222/114 sacrifices power everywhere to achieve a stock-like idle and super clean emissions. I'd opt for the 218/224/112; it'll outperform the other one across the rpm band.

Thanks for the replies. I will look for the 227 cam or possibly the LE 218/224.
