Default Fuel tank acts empty after about 10 gallons

This has happened for a little while, and while I'm adding the hotwire kit to my fuel pump, I figure its about time to tackle this issue as well. So we have 15.5 gallon tanks in our cars, but after about 10.5 gallons, mine is "empty". With running E85, 385ci, and thus getting about 11-12 mpg this is no good, as I have to fill up every 100 miles or so.

What would cause the pump to not get the last 1/3 of the gas in the tank?

The pump isn't sucking off the bottom of the tank is about the only thing that could be. Have you ever removed the pump?

Are you going by the gauge or is it really shutting down after 10 gallons?

It's really shutting down after about 10-11 gallons.

If the venting is plugged it will do that. Next time it does it, open the gas cap and try to start the car again.

As the tank drains, it creates a vacuum if fresh air cant come in, which will eventually stop the fuel flow completely.

there is a "sock" in the tank, and sometimes it gets messed up. You probably lost the sock or someone took it off. You need to open the tank and look for the sock, and make sure its orientation is correct.

I don't think it's the venting, when I take the gas cap off it doesn't do anything different or seem to have a vacuum on it. It must be the sock or something off in the tank, I'll check that this weekend.
