Question regarding fuel pump trap door

Default Question regarding fuel pump trap door

Ok so I've seen a lot of people do the trap door method, but I was wondering if it's dangerous. Couldn't there be fumes down there and a possible chance of a spark hitting those firms and BOOM?

if the fuel sender is securely fastened you have nothing to worry about. the lines are inches away from where you'd be cutting so hitting one is out of the question too.

What if there is a leak in one of the lines or something like that? Could that potentially be a factor to think about?

As long as you use a small cut off wheel like one for a dremel you have nothing to worry about.

There is always some inherent risk when working with anything that sparks around the fuel tank. It's not idiot proof. How safe it is depends on the circumstances.

Small cutoffwheel mark where you want to cut with tape or a marker.

The area where the lines bend to the left (driver side front corner) is where you need to be most careful. Cut a little extra there to make disconnecting those lines easier.

Just imagine how much fumes will be seeping in if you get in an accident

If only GM made some other way to replace fuel pumps.

Nope start cutting. Be careful with the depth and knock it out. Should be less than 30 minutes.

I don't know about that. Took me FOREVER to cut through with tin snips. Maybe if I researched and found ones that are good for cutting 14 gauge metal it would have been quick, but with 20 gauge ones it's hard.

That said, I still agree with using them for safety.
