Default LT1 Oil Cooling Adapter Removal

Has anyone removed the coolant adapter that the oil filter screws on to?

I no longer have coolant lines running to mine, and it is now interfering with the installation of an aftermarket oil pan.

Curious if you can simply unthread the nut, remove the coolant adapter and seat the stock oil filter as usual.... or are there modification required?

I just yanked mine off, capped off/rerouted coolant lines, and thread a filter in its place. Haven't looked back and glad I dumped it.

I have a universal GM BeCool setup in my car, so there were no lines to cap. Would love to rid myself of that plate if its an easy task.

When you removed the adapter, did you have to trim the stud sticking down, or was there something else underneath the plate the oil filter screws to?

From what I remember, granted it's been years but it was just remove the oil cooler and filter goes right in its place.

You will need the filter adapter installed.two bolts no gasket necessary, the filyer seals it off

GM #19299222

Have used both. There's a huge argument over whether or not it needs a gasket between the adapter/block. I personally never have. You will also need to order bolts separately. Although not advised, I've used hardware store grade 8 bolts without issue.

What he said! I've never used a gasket, grade 8 1/4-20 I think for bolts. If you are **** put a SMALL amount of RTV on the sealing surface.

Honestly I don't remember buying anything extra on my 93 but it was ages ago...pretty sure I just removed the sandwich cooler and screwed on a taller filter in its place directly to the block threads. Might have had to yank out a stud with some pliers, but no drilling or cutting anything and I didn't need any other adapter or gasket.

Might have even just shortened the stock bolts too...i didn't purchase anything but a longer filter (the one for a 350 SBC van).

Mine was full of nasty sludge and all clogged up.

Maybe 93s and early 94s had different coolers because that's what I remember doing
