Steering Pump Issue please help 1996 Z28

I have my 1996 Z28 6 speed 85k miles car at a shop with a power steering pump issue. Pump was whining and making noise so I took it in.
The shop replaced the pump and that didn't cure the issue . Then we threw a rack and pionon at it.
Still no fix. And now/again replacement pumps making noise again. Replaced pump again and it whines also.
Shop recommends we go to a (GM) factory pump now . Called the dealer and says discontinued.
So now we don't know what to do.

1 rac
Lines replaced
Flushed
100 miles

Please lend a hand and thoughts. Need a place to purchase a good pump.

all the PS pumps available are reman ones...

this shop does a very good rebuild and more. Very good feedback on these guys. Turn around can take some time

Turn one or find a used one on ebay, I got mine for 35 bucks and it doesn't whine at all.

Did these pumps start to whine immediately? If so, wondering if the system was bled properly after installs.

I would suspect that also. The only reman. pump I would go with is an AC Delco. Mine is working great, replaced it along with an AC Delco high pressure line.

OP, what are you using for p/s fluid? I had a '96 Z/28 for MANY years, and changed the fluid every couple of years, just as maintenance. One time, I thought I'd get fancy, and use synthetic fluid, rather that the conventional "red stuff". The car did NOT like the syn fluid, and the pump got somewhat noisy.

I switched back to the red fluid almost immediately, and fortunately A) the noise went away; and B) there was no permanent damage.
