Default 414 Stroker??

Okay up at sonic last night I was talking with all the local lt1/ls1 guys and this one lt1 corvette owner starts talking to me about strokers. He says he has a 383 stroker....I believe that....however this winter he's going to freshen it up and make it a 414???? Is that even possible? I've seen ls1 cars up to 427ci...but how come the LT1's don't get that big? And also if there is a 414 LT1...how come there isn't a glamourized short block like the 355,383,and 396? Sorry about the newbie style questions but I am pretty interested in this

It can be done. It just isn't done much probably due to durability issues. I would venture to say 414 is max for the LT1. The LS1 design is drastically different and is the reason for such large stroker applications. The 414 LT1 would require a lot of machine work and some of the parts are a little more speciality which would mean more $$ and why the combo isn't offered up as an off the shelf short block/crate motor. 414 cid is 4.00" stroke and 4.060" bore, pretty much maxed out.

I am currently building a 396 and it alone wraps up wayy more money than even a 383 cuz of the odd ball issues of off the shelf stuff for a 338 makes too high of a CR, so you have more custom parts....but IMO well worth the more "RARENESS" over a 355, or 383

On the ls1 there is more clearence for the 4.100 stroke around the camshaft. The lt1 has first gen dimensions. Rods won't clear.

There would also be no point to have a "414" other then saying "Hello, I have a 414". Your going to have to do a lot of work to even make that work, wouldnt be suprised if you pushed water either.

Tony.

A buddy has a 445 LS2. I would love to have a 427 lt1 id be in heaven but if I wanted that from an LTx itd have to be LT5 and DAMN that stuff is expensive.

If you look into it.. the LT5 Bore X Stroke is very, very close to the LS1...

Makes you think for a sec..

There's a place in MN I remember seeing while looking for pics of bare LT5s and they make 427 LT5s I'm 90% sure of, and that's for a LASTING motor.

427 I think is also the max on a standard casting SBC. Won't last long though with that thin cyl wall. Maybe not LT1s, but I'm pretty damn sure there were quite a few 427 SBCs back in GENI days.

With enough funding and enough stubbornness, anything is possible.
Great for bragging rights, not so good for bang for you $ or durability (IMHO)

Considering the way most of us drive on here, I bet we could wreck a 414 LT1 in less than a month.

That'd be with the World's Motor block, those CAN do 454cid and safely too!

So, We'll go with a safer 4.190 with a 4" stroke, we get... hmm only 441cid ... Oh well, I might have been mistaken and it was the LSx version that could do 454...

EDIT: OK I looked, and the LSX Warhawk block, at max everything... *drum roll* 481cid SBC GENIII
