Default valve adjustment

hey guys Im new here and just bought a 93 trans am lt1. question Im hearing a valve tick from 1 cyl. sometimes 2. i was using wrong fuel for while now running 91 octane but can I adjust the valves on this lt1? does it need it done?

Yes you can adjust the valves. Does it need it? That's anybody's guess. Try it, see if it helps

I always use the eoic method to adjust valves, but if you've only got one making noise, and you're sure of which one it is, then you may be better off adjusting it while it's running. Use an old valve cover, or put some cardboard next to the springs to prevent oil getting on other stuff. On the fuel issue, you'll be fine.

thx. Can u explain how to do adjustment? I don't know which valve it is either.

If you're not a talented wrench swinger and you need the car for work - take it to a shop to have it done. This is one job that if its done incorrectly, you can wipe out some very expensive bits

Are you sure the ticking is not a bad exhaust gasket? Sometimes they can sound dead-even with a valve/rocker tick

If the car is stock you can run whatever fuel you want due to the engine having a knock sensor. Premium is not a must, but will give you the best performance. Does the tick get louder with the engine under load? If so it's most likely a leaking manifold/header gasket. If you want to tackle this yourself, the most accurate way to adjust them is the EOIC method. Here are some others you can read about:

avtually i think the noise goes away on 1/4 throttle or more. All I hear is honking lt1 lol
