LT1 chokes at low RPM
Ok, looking for some advice here as my LT1 still chokes and wants to die if given any load at low RPMs. I believe the only thing that hasn't been changed are my plugs, could they be to blame?
Little over a year ago, my car was randomly completely dying and so a "mechanic" stumped by it changed out my ICM (which he felt was burned up and was hesitant to put it back on to the motor in the place where it was and so just zip tied it to whatever he could find to keep it from burning up again, please let me know if this is a common occurance?). Ok, think that's the worst part of the story. After that not working, he then proceeded to change out the coil, and then on to the ECM. He then let me know that he could not program it and that I would have to go somewhere else to have it programmed. Most obvious problem was that the reverse lockout was stuck to on all the time due to the ECM not programmed for the gearbox I suppose, so shifting into reverse was very difficult but not impossible which was very odd. I actually had to pay approx. $500 for all of this work even though the random shut downs were still not FIXED!! Vowed to not ever go back to this guy!
Then I chose to go to the dealer to have the ECM programmed and that's when the real problem was diagnosed of my distributor being bad. So little over a grand later I had a car that still hated me because somehow the chip reader in the ignition decided to go **** up and so starting the LT1 that was now actually working better proved to be very difficult. Of-course the dealer was no help at this point except telling me to google it, great, I then spent several weeks of playing around with it trying to trick the car into starting because when I tested the resistance coming out of the ignition wires with my key, it appeared to be correct. So having ruled out the key reader I thought it was something else. After pulling my hair out trying to figure it out for ***** and grins I purchased a resistor and put it across the connector leads under the steering column and whala, it was all good just as many websites had instructed me to do... I was puzzled at first though because even though it was starting, the blinking security light was making me think I was still not in the clear. What a major pain... Hope this story can help somebody in my perdicament...
So now back on to my original question, I still have a choking LT1 at low RPM, which makes me rev her pretty good to take off after every red light... Not a too uncommon problem for LT1s I don't believe with the Optispark (there's a worse name for it right?)... Is it my plugs/wires, or is there other parts in the system that could be at fault? I will probably just have them replaced anyway, but I'm very interested in what's left in the system besides wiring?
Thanks guys...
