Default LT1 Transmission

Hello,

I am in the process of installing a LT1 into my '70 Chevy C10. The LT1 came with a 4L60E that I am dumping for a manual. I plan to use a NP440 (MY16) 4-speed OD. This transmission came from a 80's Chevy truck with a 305.

Before buying the clutch and flywheel, I want to confirm my assumption that I need the LT1 flywheel and the NP440 clutch. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance!

-Tom

Any flywheel for a one-piece rear main block will work.

After a couple of hours cruising Google I have come up with yet more questions:

1) What is the max clutch diameter that can be mounted to a 153t flywheel?

2) is the flywheel face to bell housing face dimension the same between Gen I + II 350's?

11" is the size for LT1

On #2...if using the same bell housing it would be the same distance from block to face

IDK if the input shaft tip is same as a T56 and use the stock pilot bearing a T56 does. If not you would need to get a bushing machined the size you need

Let me rephrase #2... I am trying to determine if the distance from the flywheel mounting surface on the crankshaft and the bell housing mounting surface on the engine block is the same between Gen I & II SBC's.

I'd have to say yes.
We took a 95 LT1 T56 and bolted everything directly over to a '87 350

That sounds like confirmation to me. Did you use the '87 flywheel and starter?

Starter - yes.
The 87 had a 700r on it, so we used the LT1 flywheel, clutch, etc...

Parts are on-order so I will have visual confirmation by the end of next week. I ended up ordering a 153T LT1 flywheel and a 11" - 1.125" X 10T clutch kit for a 1984 C10 with a 305. I confirmed that the pilot bushing is the same dimensions for both so I should be good to go.

Roger that! The more I research, the more apparent that the Gen I & II lower ends are compatible .

The internals are completely interchangeable. I have an LT1 crankshaft in my Gen 1 355.

I ran into a snag this weekend that I need advise to resolve quickly as I am having a compatibility issue. Here is the parts list:

1) Flywheel for 1994 LT1 5.7L: Luk LFW282 (153 teeth)
2) Clutch kit for 1984 C10: Sachs K187702 (11" clutch, 10-spline 1-1/8" input)

The problem that I ran into is that the bolt circle on the flywheel is 11-5/8" but the pressure plate bolt circle is 12-5/8".

Can I simply buy a new pressure plate for the LT1 applications? Or do I have to get into a mix and match with a Gen I flywheel and starter?

Alright, I called AMS and got the answer that I needed within a minute. It would have been a whole lot less expensive if I would have made that call first

1) AMS Flywheel 167527
2) AMS Clutch 04-021

DONE.
