How much HP is fun

Well that's when you put your 15" inch drag pack on when it's time for business.. You say you don't Street race right? Well if your serious about the track then you should have a second set of tires just for that imo..

Rolling around on sticky tires is a chore in comparison. Having to worry about imperfect weather, fast tire wear, and rubbing all the time is lame. If you spend 95% of your time driving on the street, then what's the point? Save the spares for track days.

Any given amount of horsepower is fun until you've had it for a few weeks and get used to it. Whether it's a 250whp stock car or a 500rwhp built stroker, in due time it will become boring.
Given a sufficient budget, many people end up building a car to the point where it makes about twice as much power as is useable on the street at speeds of less than 100 mph.
My personal experience tells me that north of about 600 or so rwhp, it all feels about the same on the street at anything resembling normal speeds. Just lots of wheelspin, noise and running through the gears quickly. You typically have to be going felony speeds to really be able to sense the difference between 650rwhp and 900rwhp on the street.

My car is fun and annoying to drive at the same time, If I nail it anywhere below 40 mph on street tires it gets very loose and scary. With that in mind if I have drag radials on it takes a very fast car to leave me.

I am still struggling with how much power I wish my motor could produce, for "fun". With factory horsepower which I can feel when I am driving, I would like to reach 400 HP. With the on-and-off research I have been doing, and considering the alcohol fuel I intend to use with her once I am out of college, I could very well reach 400 with the right street performance modifications, increased compression to the motor, and having my PCM programmed to capitalize on the iso-butanol fuel. The guy I seek to program my PCM is going to have to be the guy to build my reman LT1 to the new specs. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of years.
