I want 50-100 more HP...
Hi!
I´ve got an 94 Trans Am and I´m using it mainly for dragracing.
Here´s some of the prats in it now:
Gm performance Lt4 hotcam.
Trickflow gen x 185 cylinderheads.
accel injectors 30lb.
Edelbrock performer Rpm air-gap manifold .
Edelbrock throttle body 52mm.
(Yank4000 converter and 4.10 rear gear.)
Now it´s stock bottom and I´m going to rebuild the engine and thinking of stroking it, 383” or 396”.
Is there something else I should change to get a better setup and gain 50-100hp?
Bigger throttle body, 58mm. New Camshaft etc etc
Are the heads good enough?
It´s 400hp (320whp) as it is, and I would like to get 50-100hp more.
Sometimes I´m using 125hk N2O.
The film is from last year, and this year I went 10.58s.

You'll need a bigger cam for the bigger displacement. I think you'll need head work as well. I'm assuming that the trickflows have enough material to be ported like stock LT1 heads. I think I'd have LE or AI work them over. They would be able to recommend a good cam as well.
The intake manifold might actually start hurting you as the flow increases. If I'm not mistaken, it has less plenum volume that the stock unit. I don't know if it's hurting you now, but all the data when it came out pointed to no gains with it(at least all the data I saw).
We'll wait for the others to chime in who have been down this road. I plan on doing the same thing in a couple of years(if not sooner). At a minimum, I'll be putting LE or AI heads on my setup(ported stock heads).

Mono Blade Air Door
Hi WR, I would use a 396 CID stroke kit (similar to a GM 400 CID) as the cost is the same.
I can provide this kit, balanced with King Bearings.
I would fit my "mono" blade air door.
I would fit my #45 .lbs Denso Fuel Injectors.
Spec-it AND I will provide an EAP report of the Torque/HP ?
You will meet your goal.

Injector HP
Hi WR, there IS MATH for Injector HP.
The #30.lbs injector = 480 HP with a normal .5 BSFC AT 100% DUTY CYCLE. (OK)
A rolling road to Bench engine HP IS about .78% to .82% of the engine HP.
MOST all STATE a 85% Duty Cycle MAX for good injector control = 408 engine HP.

You are hauling the mail with that cam and a small shot.
It wont be the cheapest route, but in addition to stroking it I would have the heads ported by a reputable shop, and run a larger cam. Nothing huge to keep supporting mods reasonable and to still work with your current stall...let a shop spec it but I would be looking at least at a mid 23x intake. Of course you will also need to install some bigger injectors. Once its dialed in on motor, you can put the shot back on an up it to a 150 since you will be built and can handle it no problem.

Thanks for all the help.
For the moment it looks like this:
36lbs injectors
58mm TB
I would like Ellotsportwork to grind on my Heads, but I live in Sweden…
So I´m going with my Trick Flow gen X 185 Heads as they are.
Custom cam from Elliot.
Stroker, 383” or 396”, depending on what i find for reasonable money.

If you sent him your heads he could either have Lloyd do some work to them, assemble your motor and even have it tuned and send you the pcm.
this way you just install the motor....unless you have the resources in Sweden to have all this done

Send Trick Flow heads to Advanced Induction for porting and specify
Have them fitted with Comp Cams Ultra Pro-Magnum roller rockers
Cam should spec to approx 244*/250* duration, .650" lift and 110* + 3* LSA
Get a 58mm TB.
Get a set of 42 LB injector
Get a dyno tune.
Best of luck!

EAP HP/Torque "guess"
Hi WR, the Balanced Forged kit (3.875" x 4.030"), H-Beam Rods (8740 ARP's), rings (steel), RaceTec Pistons "Hi-Silicon Forged" and King Bearings = $1900.00 FOB.
Your Cam 218/228 .492"/.492" 112 C/L = 581 Torque and 552 HP. (EAP Model)
The "KW" cam choice (a good choice) is 602HP (EAP Model)
A #36 injector is TOO Small, why not the 42-45, as they are the same price ?
I would ALSO use my "mono blade" air door, same price again !

Speedmaster Thread at SBC/BBC below ^
Hi WR, I have pictures to send, thanks for the request.
I would need your "E" mail ?
The thread in the SBC/BBC section, "speedmaster intake" John C.,
has the pictures of the block grinding required to clear rod bolts.
There are other pictures of the crank, rods, pistons.

95 vette block with rails milled on a bridgeport.
If you are still open to suggestions of valvetrain, you can talk to PAC for the springs and Bullet for the camshaft.

Also be careful with your rod and rod bolt selection. My 383 was built for 4 digit nitrous builds and I am just NA so it has way overkill L19 rod bolts that needed a TON of clearancing, when ARP2000's would have been plenty for me and had a lot more clearance without grinding as much.
