Default LT1 difference

I bought a pickup truck with a 1996 Corvette LT1 with suffix YSS. I am beginning to think itīs from a Camaro and the seller says itīs the same engine. Is that true?

Corvette had 4 bolt mains. Camaro and B-Bodys had 2 bolt main LT1. Corvette and Camaro had aluminum heads. Different cams in each and the Vette LT1 made more HP than the other body types

"y" body = vette

Seller is not really lying, they are the "same", unless it's the LT4 or iron head motor. The vette made more power due to the intake and exhaust, so if it's in a truck those are changed anyways so they would make the same power.

Which side is the fuel line on? Vettes are passenger side, ever2else was driver's side.

Oil pans and accessory drives were also different.

Don't forget the 30th Ann 330hp LT4 SS Camaro's.

Only seen 2 in my lifetime and one was smushed completely.

Actually a common misconception. Not all manual Corvette's were LT4's, but ALL LT4's were manual Corvettes.

Some corvette guru's early on incorrectly spread that information and it has stuck in the community ever since.

You are mistaken. I have tuned '96 manual transmission Corvettes with both engines. Easy to tell for certain by the 8th digit of the vin. Most were LT1s.

I don't doubt it...the LT4 option was not cheap.

wheeeeeew..... LT4 f-bodies are some rare S.....

The LT4 was available on the following vehicles:

1996 Chevrolet Corvette when equipped with 6-speed manual transmission (includes all Grand Sports) (Production: 6,359)
1997 Chevrolet Camaro SLP/LT4 SS 6-speed (Production: 100 for the U.S., 6 for Canada. There were 2 prototypes)
1997 Pontiac Firebird SLP/LT4 Firehawk 6-speed (Production: 29)
All 135 production engines for the Firehawks and Camaro SS were completely disassembled, balanced, blueprinted and honed with stress plates. One in 5 engines was tested on a Superflow engine dyno and every car was tested on a chassis dyno in addition to performing a short 6-mile (10 km) road test.

Yes, and in 1997 when the LS vette came out the LT4 depreciated with the quickness.

Not real clear there. Sounded like you were saying the LS1 came out first. I had assumed you were smarter than that.

It was supposed to be understood- the LT4 "option" amongst the LT1 vettes for the consumer who may be looking for one on a used car lot. I will try not to disappoint you next time, Ed!
